Orcs Must Die! 3
This is a first-person shooter and tower-defense game where you lay
down traps to defend against waves of orcs/etc. who are trying to
destroy your McGuffin. Whatever your traps don't kill you have to shoot
in the head.
I liked this game enough to beat the game and then play
through all the levels again to get a perfect 5-skull playthrough for
each. I played for 30 hours and had fun for most of that.
THE GOOD
- You can play coop with a friend.
- The zany plot and juvenile humour punctuate a whole lot of killing
of orcs and their friends.
- It's fun to play and watch others play.
- The controls are smooth and functional.
- The game onboards you really well, introducing new features as you
go along.
- It's a pretty simple game that would probably be fun for kids
too.
- There are a lot of trap options that range from useful to showy,
which gives you lots of opportunity for fun and experimentation.
THE BAD
- It took me a long time to realize that there is a feature in the
game options to see your Par Time. This is how much
time you have available to finish the level fast enough and earn a
skull. Not knowing this can make time trials really frustrating. This
feature should really be enabled by default.
- The game can be frustrating at times, requiring replaying through
missions without necessarily understanding what went wrong or how to fix
it. This is especially true if you are trying to get 5 skulls on every
mission like I did.
THE UGLY
- The game was not registering some of my mouse-clicks at first. The
solution was to switch the graphics to fullscreen mode
instead of borderless windowed.
- This game does glorify violence against "the other", which you might
find offensive.
