Floppy Knights
Floppy Knights
Official Website
Floppy Knights is a cute indie puzzle game with a story. The story
has click-through conversations where we meet the main character Phoebe
and her robotic arm side-kick Carlton. They enter the hero business
together, using magical "floppy knights" to fight battles for them.
The actual gameplay involves puzzle battles where you draw and play
cards and interact with a 2D grid. The cards might summon a new knight,
allow one to move, attack, or do some special effect. The grid contains
enemies, spawners, and various terrain features like impassable
mountains and rivers that slow you down. You get several different deck
types to play with and can freely set up your decks before story
missions.
THE GOOD:
- The pixel graphics are well done and effective
- The character animations are especially endearing
- Fun gameplay with a variety of challenges.
- Exciting finale to the story mode!
- Seems like a really great game for kids.
- The bonus puzzles are where the real challenge is at. Some of them
are very tough.
THE BAD:
- During conversations, the way they laid out the text at the bottom
makes it hard to read the conversation and see the animations.
This is a shame, because the animations are cute.
- The dialogue could be a bit better. It tends to run on without
saying much.
THE UGLY:
- Is floppy knight some kind of unfortunate sexual reference?
This is an odd choice in what is otherwise a kids' game. Perhaps this is
just my mind being in the gutter.
- We had a few minor interface glitches, such as once spending energy
on a card that failed to do anything, or occasional issues where the
right-click stopped working. No show-stoppers though.
